The Story Behind Uncle Rico's Pizza
Rico has been working in the pizza industry since 1998. Even as a little boy he would work for a family relative during his summer breaks. He learned to make pizzas while standing on a milk crate at the young age of 12 years old. The pizza business has been in his blood for over 25 years.
Uncle Rico—as he’s known by his seven beloved nieces and nephews— inspired the pizzeria’s name.
Rico moved to New York from Toronto in 2005. He worked his way up at local pizzeria, from delivery driver to General Manager, while his father continued to encourage him to open his own place. When his father passed away in 2012, Rico decided that the long hours and hard work he was doing for someone else would be better invested in his own shop. And on Father’s Day 2014, in honor of his father’s wish, Uncle Rico’s Pizza opened its doors.
Uncle Rico’s logo also has a story: “I grew out my mustache, and when I go out, I like to wear hats.” The logo was born just from a photograph.
